Three new Australian silver coins make their debut from the Perth Mint of Australia in July 2012.
Reverse designs found on the three new strikes feature images of two iconic Australian creatures, the kangaroo and the kookaburra, with the third depicting a more cold weather design showcasing emperor penguins.
The 1 oz Emperor Penguin Silver Proof Coin is offered by the Perth as the ninth release of the popular Australian Antarctic Territory series. Other issues in the series have depicted whales, seals and locations important to the Australian exploration of Antarctica.
The 1 oz Australian Kangaroo Silver Proof High Relief Coin appears from the Perth Mint as its first high relief coin to feature the iconic creature. 2012 also marked the first time the kangaroo coin was struck from .999 fine silver as traditionally the Perth Mint has struck the coin only from gold.
Offered as the first release of the Australian Bush Babies II series, the Bush Baby Kookaburra Silver Coin showcases the image of a young kookaburra. The likeness of the bird is shown in color.
